Overview

Duke Health is looking for an Advanced Medical Lab Scientist for their Blood Gas Lab, operating on a third shift schedule. The role involves performing a variety of routine and complex laboratory tests for accurate diagnosis and treatment of diseases, while ensuring quality and compliance with safety standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex technical tasks in laboratory tests
  • Operate manual or computerized instrumentation and maintain calibration
  • Process patient samples using identification techniques and procedures
  • Troubleshoot assay problems under senior staff direction
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Participate in the development of new laboratory tests and techniques
  • Review inspection documents and maintain compliance with regulations
  • Document quality control and quality assurance results
  • Train new staff and provide technical guidance
  • Attend laboratory meetings and comply with safety training

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • Generalist certification required for general labs and generalist/specialty certification for specialty labs
  • Minimum two years of experience as a certified Medical Lab Scientist
