Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist, Advanced to join the Blood Gas Lab team. This position entails performing a variety of routine and complex laboratory tests essential for disease diagnosis and treatment, with a focus on achieving accurate results and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory tests using standard techniques and equipment
  • Handle and process patient specimens, ensuring quality material for testing
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory instrumentation according to standard procedures
  • Troubleshoot assay problems and communicate issues to senior staff
  • Document quality control and assurance results
  • Participate in the development of new laboratory tests and techniques
  • Train new staff and provide technical guidance to students and interns
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and standards

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science
  • Generalist/Specialty certification as required
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a certified Medical Lab Scientist
  • Proficient in clinical laboratory testing and quality control
  • Experience in instrumentation calibration and technical troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and compliance training
