Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist, Advanced to join their Blood Gas Lab team in Durham, North Carolina. This position involves performing a variety of routine and complex laboratory tests during the third shift to support patient diagnosis and treatment in a state-of-the-art facility that values compassionate care and innovation.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of tests in clinical laboratories using standard techniques and equipment
  • Handle specimens and operate manual or computerized instrumentation
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment according to standard operating procedures
  • Process patient samples for testing ensuring quality material
  • Troubleshoot assay problems and communicate issues to senior staff
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Participate in the development of new medical laboratory tests and techniques
  • Prepare for lab inspections and maintain knowledge of procedures
  • Perform proficiency testing and document quality control results
  • Train new staff and serve as a resource person for laboratory team members

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
  • Generalist/Specialty Certification by a nationally recognized board/agency
  • Two years of experience as a certified Medical Lab Scientist
  • Analytical skills and quality control expertise
  • Troubleshooting and laboratory equipment operation
