Overview

The Mechanical Designer, Sr. Specialist at L3Harris Technologies is responsible for designing complex opto-mechanical and electromechanical products from concept to production. This role involves applying advanced engineering knowledge to solve intricate technical problems within the realm of defense technology, contributing directly to L3Harris’ mission and providing reliable technology solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and analyze complex opto-mechanical and electromechanical products using modern CAD and analysis tools.
  • Perform innovation and suggest improvements to systems and cost reductions.
  • Carry out complex engineering assignments requiring specialized knowledge.
  • Lead projects and contribute to the definition of departmental best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to other staff.
  • Participate in design reviews as a presenter or reviewer.
  • Support the verification and validation of new product designs.
  • Stay updated with mechanical industry trends and new technologies.

Required skills

  • Proficient in FEA for static and dynamic analysis, preferably ANSYS.
  • Proficient in CFD analysis, preferably ANSYS.
  • Advanced knowledge of a 3D CAD system, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Experience with Matlab or equivalent mathematical application.
  • Extensive knowledge of drawing standards and mechanical design practices.
  • Well versed in mechanical dynamics, vibration, and strength of materials.
  • Knowledge of opto-mechanical design principles and manufacturing techniques.
  • Technical leadership skills and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare detailed technical reports and specifications.
