Job Description

Overview

As a Mechanic A at Herc Rentals, you will serve as a master technician and leader in maintaining the quality and efficiency of equipment within the branch. Your role will involve leading fleet maintenance operations, mentoring other mechanics, and ensuring that all equipment meets industry standards for safety and performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a schedule for preventative maintenance of fleet equipment
  • Operate and test equipment to ensure compliance with quality standards
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs independently on heavy equipment and trucks
  • Diagnose issues with engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems
  • Conduct major repairs using diagnostic tools and hand tools
  • Assist in customer damage estimates and repairs
  • Enter and review work orders and manage part ordering
  • Recondition and replace parts of heavy equipment
  • Train B and C level mechanics while taking direction from the shop lead
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Produce detailed service reports and repair logs

Required skills

  • 3 years of experience in repairing heavy equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Strong understanding of technical schematics and owner manuals
  • Experience with operating and testing various types of equipment
  • Proficiency in basic computer operations and entering work orders
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and time management skills
