Overview

The Marine Mechanic I position at Allen Marine Tours in Juneau, Alaska, involves skilled maintenance and repair of marine diesel and gas engines and related systems on vessels. The role includes troubleshooting, instruction for junior staff, and providing support during tours. It requires advanced diagnostics, engine overhauls, and a commitment to safety and teamwork.

Key responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot diesel, gas, and propane engines and marine systems.
  • Repair and maintain hydraulic equipment and valves.
  • Fabricate and install brackets and manifolds.
  • Run fuel lines, wiring harnesses, and control cables.
  • Rebuild and overhaul marine engines using technical manuals.
  • Lead and assist junior mechanics with various tasks.
  • Maintain accurate work logs and assist with inventory.
  • Occasional fill-in as a Deckhand for monitoring vessel systems.

Required skills

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • 6+ years of experience in marine or heavy diesel mechanics
  • Advanced knowledge in diesel/marine mechanics
  • Experience with analog and electronic systems
  • Proficiency in reading technical manuals and schematics
  • Ability to operate machinery and hand/power tools safely
  • Customer service and leadership experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills
