Overview

The Manufacturing Equipment Technician at West Fraser is responsible for maintaining and operating the planer machine in a lumber processing environment. This role includes performing preventive maintenance, minor repairs, monitoring machine operations, and ensuring safety compliance.

Key responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proper use of personal protective equipment and safety rules
  • Set, monitor, and maintain the planer machine for quality product finish
  • Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on the machine
  • Feed the planer and ensure consistent lumber flow
  • Assist maintenance with major repairs as needed
  • Change knives and maintain machine setup to proper tolerances
  • Complete the required West Fraser Qualified Millwright training

Required skills

  • Experience with preventive maintenance and machine operation
  • Proficient in tool handling and ability to lift heavy objects
  • Strong mechanical skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Familiarity with caliper measurements and machine controls
  • Ability to work outdoors and stand for extended periods
  • Must furnish own hand tools as specified
