Overview

The University of Cincinnati is seeking a Managing Editor for The Cincinnati Review, an esteemed literary journal within the College of Arts and Sciences. The role involves overseeing the production of two print and digital issues annually, mentoring graduate and undergraduate editors, and collaborating with various stakeholders in and outside the university. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and a mastery of copyediting.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee the production schedule for two issues per year
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise graduate-level editors and undergraduate interns
  • Liaise with faculty, vendors, and university departments
  • Participate in departmental training and recruitment efforts
  • Copyedit accepted submissions following Chicago Manual of Style
  • Prepare accessible e-book versions of journal issues
  • Manage journal payments and office supplies
  • Coordinate journal's presence at national conferences
  • Assist in providing content for the journal's website and social media

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in English Composition, Professional Writing, or related field
  • Four years of experience reviewing and editing publication materials
  • Mastery of copyediting both prose and poetry using Chicago Manual of Style
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, Canva, and Wordpress
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience in mentorship and project management
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities
