Overview

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Manager of Mechanical Engineering in Waterdown, Ontario, to lead the design and development of complex opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical components for the defense sector. The role focuses on providing technical leadership, managing engineering processes, and ensuring design integrity while fostering the professional growth of team members.

Key responsibilities

  • Establish short-term operational plans with measurable contributions to business results.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to the Mechanical Engineering team.
  • Hold responsibility for the overall mechanical design integrity of products.
  • Participate in technical design reviews to ensure mechanical design integrity.
  • Contribute to the conceptual design and engineering validation of mechanical sub-systems.
  • Develop and maintain Mechanical Engineering design processes and standards.
  • Manage the selection of Mechanical Engineering tools to maximize product development efficiency.
  • Estimate costs and schedules for mechanical work packages.
  • Monitor mechanical design engineering demand and make recommendations for new hires.
  • Provide mechanical technical support across various organizational areas.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and relevant technologies.
  • Lead management and technical aspects of New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.

Required skills

  • Management and leadership knowledge within mechanical engineering.
  • Proficiency in project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of opto-mechanical design principles and optical principles.
  • Familiarity with machining and optical manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience with CAD design using SolidWorks.
  • Technical proficiency in structural analysis, thermal analysis, and vibration troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of rapid prototyping techniques and materials science.
