Overview

The University of Illinois Foundation is seeking a Manager of Data Engineering and Analytics to lead a team responsible for building and maintaining enterprise data and reporting solutions that support fundraising and decision-making functions. This role involves close collaboration with advancement leadership and technical teams to enhance data capabilities and implement modern cloud analytics platforms.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage a team of data professionals, setting strategic priorities and overseeing work.
  • Direct migration from legacy infrastructure to a modern cloud analytics platform using Microsoft Fabric.
  • Implement structured SDLC and delivery practices including request intake and release management.
  • Align data capabilities with organizational strategy and enterprise reporting needs.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to design and support enterprise data warehouse and analytics solutions.
  • Develop queries and analyze datasets using strong SQL expertise.
  • Oversee the design and maintenance of data warehouse reporting and data delivery layer.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing data products and analytics from data warehouse environments.
  • 3+ years of experience managing technical staff.
  • Experience designing and building interactive dashboards using Power BI or Tableau.
  • Strong SQL expertise including data modeling principles and design of data tables.
  • Advanced SQL and T-SQL proficiency with cloud data platforms like Microsoft Fabric or Azure.
  • Familiarity with advancement operations and CRM platforms like Blackbaud.
  • Knowledge of DevOps/DataOps practices including CI/CD pipelines.
