Overview

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Maintenance Technician Level A, who will act as the senior technical expert responsible for advanced diagnostics, complex repairs, and technical leadership across all MRF processing equipment. The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and mentoring of lower-level technicians while providing high-quality maintenance services for a variety of waste and recycling operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead diagnosis and repair of complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues
  • Perform major component rebuilds, overhauls, and precision alignment on critical processing equipment
  • Troubleshoot chronic failures and support root-cause analysis efforts
  • Serve as the technical lead on shift and mentor Level B and C mechanics
  • Verify quality of repairs and preventive maintenance execution
  • Execute and refine preventive maintenance tasks and procedures
  • Identify and eliminate repeat failures impacting uptime and throughput
  • Assist in planning daily plant maintenance workload and allocating jobs
  • Support audits, safety inspections, and external regulatory reviews

Required skills

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of industrial, fleet, or processing maintenance experience
  • Strong welding and fabrication capability
  • Proven ability to work independently and lead complex repairs
  • Experience with mechanical systems, ideally in recycling or industrial maintenance
  • OEM training on balers, conveyors, or processing systems (preferred)
  • Leadership or lead-technician experience (preferred)
