Overview

The Maintenance Multi-Craft Technician Trainee at Charter Steel is an entry-level role within the Maintenance Department, focused on supporting the operation of plant equipment and systems. The position entails learning preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and inspections under the mentorship of experienced personnel while adhering to safety and quality practices.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with removing, disassembling, refurbishing, replacing, and aligning machinery and equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks under guidance
  • Support corrective maintenance activities to reduce downtime
  • Learn to read mechanical and electrical prints and identify components
  • Assist with troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for daily activities
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas and follow safety procedures

Required skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • One or more years of related experience preferred
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Ability to read a ruler and perform basic calculations
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills
  • Basic knowledge of rigging, welding, cutting, and burning preferred
  • Familiarity with lubrication theory and practices
