Overview

The Maintenance Multi-Craft Technician Trainee at Charter Steel is an entry-level position designed to support the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment and systems. The trainee will learn and assist with preventative and corrective maintenance under the guidance of experienced team members, focusing on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with removing, disassembling, refurbishing, replacing, and aligning machinery and equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks under supervision
  • Support corrective maintenance activities to enhance equipment reliability
  • Learn to read basic mechanical and electrical prints
  • Assist with troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Utilize the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for maintenance tasks
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts within the manufacturing process
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas

Required skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • One or more years of related experience preferred
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Basic knowledge of rigging, welding, cutting, and burning preferred
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment
