Overview

Amherst College is seeking multiple Maintainers to support its Dining Services. This full-time position plays a critical role in maintaining safe, clean, and orderly conditions across various dining facilities, ensuring a welcoming environment for a diverse campus community. The Maintainer will work both independently and collaboratively to meet the operational needs of the dining services.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform general custodial duties in dining areas, restrooms, and adjacent service spaces.
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces and dining equipment according to health standards.
  • Manage waste removal and ensure proper disposal of trash, recycling, and compost.
  • Inspect areas for cleanliness and safety, and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Monitor stock levels of cleaning materials and restroom supplies.
  • Assist dining operations during service by responding to spills and immediate cleaning needs.
  • Support setup and breakdown of dining and event spaces.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding operational needs.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain awareness of food safety and allergen protocols.

Required skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience in food service or custodial work
  • Basic knowledge of custodial practices
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to sanitation standards
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion
