Job Description

Overview

The Machine Operator 1 is a field-based role responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing railway maintenance and inspection equipment at Loram Maintenance of Way. The position requires adherence to safety protocols and the ability to conduct machine inspections and repairs while working in varying conditions throughout Canada.

Key responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain railway maintenance and inspection equipment
  • Conduct machine inspections to identify problems and communicate conditions to supervisors
  • Perform maintenance and repairs according to set schedules and policies
  • Lead job briefings during operation and maintenance shifts
  • Accurately document daily field reports and administrative reporting

Required skills

  • 3+ months experience with Loram equipment or equivalent in a 24/7 environment
  • 2+ years in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and machine operations
  • Heavy equipment operation experience (Backhoe, Excavator, etc.)
  • Basic administration and computer skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Windows
  • Valid driver's license and maintain railroad certifications
  • CPR/First Aid certification
