Job Description

Overview

The Low Observable Material Engineer position at Raytheon in Tucson, Arizona involves developing and integrating advanced materials for stealth technology in defense systems. The role combines material and process development, testing, and characterizing materials to meet demanding operational requirements in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Material and process development for Low Observable weapon systems
  • Characterization and system level integration of materials
  • Conduct material performance predictions and measurement tests
  • Perform material measurements of RF attenuation properties
  • Generate predicted material performance using Computational Electromagnetic Codes
  • Support integrated product teams with advanced signature control techniques
  • Conduct material testing and characterization (RF, mechanical, physical)
  • Prepare engineering documentation and interface with customers and suppliers
  • Participate in program reviews and project management
  • Mentor early career engineers

Required skills

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience or 3 years with an advanced degree
  • Experience in Low Observables or Radar materials
  • Material characterization and performance testing experience
  • Collaboration with customers and suppliers
  • High temperature LO materials characterization and integration experience
  • Competence in thermal analysis techniques (DMA, TMA, TGA, DSC)
  • CAD software proficiency
  • Technical programming experience (Python, C++, MATLAB)
  • Current active U.S. Government in-scope DoD Top Secret security clearance
