Job Description

Overview

Raytheon is seeking a Low Observable Material Engineer based in Tucson, Arizona, who will work on cutting-edge projects related to Low Observable (LO) weapon systems. The role involves material and process development, characterization, and system integration to support various defense products. Applicants must hold a current U.S. government security clearance and will play a pivotal role in advancing stealth technology.

Key responsibilities

  • Material and process development, characterization, and system level integration
  • Perform material measurements of RF attenuation properties
  • Generate predicted material performance using Computational Electromagnetic Codes (CEM)
  • Work in integrated product teams to incorporate advanced signature control techniques
  • Conduct material formulation and development, fabrication process development
  • Support composites operations and conduct material testing and characterization
  • Prepare engineering documentation and interface with customers and suppliers
  • Participate in leadership of program reviews and project management
  • Mentor early career engineers
  • Function as Materials Lead on Integrated Product Teams

Required skills

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with at least 5 years of experience
  • Experience in Low Observables or Radar materials
  • Material characterization and performance testing experience
  • Knowledge of intrinsic property analytical techniques for electromagnetic characterization
  • Competence in thermal analysis techniques (DMA, TMA, TGA, DSC)
  • CAD software proficiency and technical programming experience (Python, C++, MATLAB)
  • Experience with infrared signature analysis and control
  • Active government issued Top Secret security clearance
