Overview

The Lifeguard at La Porte County Family YMCA is responsible for the safety and supervision of all aquatic patrons, ensuring a secure environment while maintaining cleanliness and enforcing aquatic regulations. This role involves vigilant monitoring, responding to emergencies, and participating in mandatory training.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and security of all patrons in the aquatic area.
  • Maintain constant surveillance of the water and pool deck.
  • Respond to emergency situations according to YMCA policies.
  • Enforce aquatic rules and policies consistently and fairly.
  • Maintain emergency equipment and report issues to supervisors.
  • Measure and record chemical and temperature readings.
  • Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of the aquatic area.
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and in-service sessions.
  • Manage problems and evacuate the pool if necessary.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Required skills

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong human relation skills
  • Proficiency in standard business software including Google platforms and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work effectively with people of different backgrounds and abilities
