Job Description

Overview

St. Mary's Residential Community & Services is looking for a dependable and energetic Lifeguard to join their Day Program team in Boyce, Louisiana. This role involves ensuring the safety and enjoyment of clients in an aquatic environment while promoting engagement and wellness through recreational pool activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor pool, deck, and surrounding areas to ensure swimmer safety and enforce pool rules
  • Maintain constant surveillance of swimmers and remain emergency-ready at all times
  • Assist swimmers entering/exiting the pool, including individuals with seizures or other health concerns
  • Inspect pool facilities and rescue equipment daily; report unsafe conditions immediately
  • Respond to emergencies by providing first aid, CPR/AED, rescues, and coordinating emergency services
  • Document attendance, activities, chemical checks, incidents, and pool closures per policy
  • Notify management of pool chemical or supply needs
  • Prepare and clean pool areas before and after activities
  • Support emergency evacuations and disaster response efforts
  • Perform additional duties assigned by management

Required skills

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous lifeguarding experience preferred
  • Ability to swim and work comfortably in water
  • Valid Louisiana driver's license required
  • Current Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR/AED certifications required
  • Calm, patient, and responsive during emergencies
  • Ability to monitor and adjust pool chemical levels
  • Strong physical endurance and ability to assist swimmers in distress
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Physical ability to lift individuals from the water when necessary
  • Comfortable remaining in and around water for extended periods of time
