Overview

The Liability Risk Manager at CoxHealth is responsible for the strategic oversight and management of the healthcare system's claims and liability issues, reporting directly to the Administrative Director of Insurance and Risk Management. This role involves directing the lifecycle of various high-risk claims and collaborating with multiple stakeholders to protect the organization's interests while promoting a culture of safety and fiscal responsibility.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the full lifecycle of professional liability, medical malpractice, and general liability claims
  • Investigate and evaluate claims, including litigation management and resolution
  • Serve as the primary liaison with defense counsel and internal teams
  • Oversee litigation activities including discovery management and settlement negotiations
  • Identify trends and manage potentially compensable events
  • Implement system-wide risk mitigation strategies
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement

Required skills

  • 5 years of professional liability claims experience
  • Strong understanding of medical malpractice and general liability claims processes
  • Familiarity with healthcare operations, clinical risk, and patient safety principles
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong investigative and research skills
  • Effective communication skills with clinicians and legal counsel
  • Excellent judgment and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with claims management systems and data analysis tools
  • Bachelor's Degree; JD or Healthcare Degree preferred
