Overview

The Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Director at Housing California will lead the development and execution of the legislative and regulatory strategy, primarily focused at the state level. This role will involve translating policy ideas into legislative actions, engaging with policymakers, and managing a dedicated team to support state policy and regulatory reforms.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the development of Housing CA's legislative and regulatory strategy.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with policymakers and stakeholders.
  • Oversee the implementation of legislative, administrative, and regulatory strategies.
  • Ensure participation of Housing CA staff in hearings and coalition meetings.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support public support for policy agendas.
  • Manage and grow collaborative networks and coalitions for policy advocacy.
  • Provide organizational leadership and contribute to fundraising efforts.
  • Hire, manage, mentor, and support team professional development.

Required skills

  • 7 years of experience in policy, advocacy, or campaign work
  • In-depth knowledge of California politics and legislative processes
  • Experience in housing justice or related fields
  • Strong strategic leadership and team management abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build collaborative and inclusive coalitions
  • Willingness to travel and attend early morning or evening obligations
  • Familiarity with online advocacy and project management tools
