Overview

The Legislative and Policy Associate at Mother's Outreach Network (MON) will support the organization's advocacy efforts focusing on child welfare and income policy. This role involves tracking legislative developments, conducting research, and producing advocacy materials to help advance policies that support economic security for families, with a strong emphasis on racial equity and community involvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Track and analyze developments at the DC Council and federal agencies related to child welfare and income policy.
  • Produce research, testimony, briefings, and advocacy materials.
  • Support MON's legal team with research and analysis connected to litigation.
  • Represent MON in coalition spaces focused on guaranteed income and child welfare.
  • Collaborate with team members, particularly with the Communications Strategist and Parent Peer Organizer.

Required skills

  • 4-5 years of experience in policy, legislative affairs, or advocacy.
  • Understanding of child welfare, income policy, and family economic security issues.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Experience working with legal or litigation teams.
  • Ability to work with system-impacted communities and in coalition environments.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in public policy or law is a plus.
