Job Description

Overview

At Saab in West Lafayette, IN, the Lead Stress Engineer plays a crucial role in manufacturing the rear section of the T-7A Redhawk military trainer aircraft. This position blends expertise in stress engineering with manufacturing liaison duties to ensure efficient communication and implementation of engineering solutions throughout the production process.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform static and DaDT structural analyses of airframe structures and mechanical systems.
  • Collaborate with design teams to create optimized designs that meet program requirements.
  • Derive applied loads and perform weight and stiffness optimization using FEA and other software.
  • Review and address non-conforming conditions on parts and verify compliance with engineering standards.
  • Act as the communication link between design engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Provide real-time support to address production and build issues.
  • Investigate non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor production processes for potential design risks and suggest improvements.

Required skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, Aeronautical, or related)
  • 8+ years' experience in Aerospace Stress engineering
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Experience with metallic and composite airframe structure analysis
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
  • Citizenship requirements: U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident
