Overview

The Lead Senior Accountant at Family Tree Nursery is a pivotal role responsible for enhancing the financial foundation of the organization while leading a small team. This position involves not only managing core accounting functions such as payables, receivables, and financial reporting but also building scalable processes that adapt to the dynamic nature of the business, which operates seasonally.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activity.
  • Build and implement scalable accounting processes for improved accuracy and efficiency.
  • Create ownership across the team for process execution.
  • Identify gaps and inefficiencies and propose sustainable solutions.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Ensure financial data integrity across systems.
  • Manage and develop a small team, providing clear expectations and support.
  • Foster a culture of ownership and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Partner with leadership to drive operational improvements.

Required skills

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in operational or retail environments.
  • Experience in building or improving accounting processes.
  • Prior team management or mentoring experience.
  • Strong knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to create structure in less organized environments.
  • Strong communication skills across diverse teams.
