Overview

As a Lead Research Engineer focused on FPGA Design at GE Vernova, you will architect and develop advanced embedded systems for real-time controls and industrial communication applications. This role involves leading R&D projects that align with GE Vernova's energy business initiatives and collaborating with various stakeholders, including U.S. Government agencies and universities, to transition cutting-edge technologies to market-ready products.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop FPGA solutions for embedded systems and industrial control systems
  • Leverage FPGA design tools for simulation, testing, and optimization of real-time systems
  • Shape and pursue opportunities with U.S. government agencies like the DOE and DOD
  • Transition embedded controls and communication systems from lab demonstrations to field prototypes
  • Collaborate with universities, industrial consortiums, and commercial partners
  • Publish technical papers and contribute to patent filings and open-source communities

Required skills

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines, or Master's with 2 years of experience, or Ba
  • 2-5 years of FPGA and SoC design experience using Verilog, SystemVerilog, and VHDL
  • Experience with Xilinx and/or Intel FPGA devices and tools (e.g., ModelSim, Intel Quartus, Xilinx Vivado)
  • Solid understanding of digital logic design and RTL simulation
  • Experience with clock domain crossing techniques and standard interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, PCIe, DDR)
  • Proficiency in high-level synthesis tools and algorithms to hardware workflows
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and timing diagrams
  • Experience with version control systems (preferably Git)
