Overview

Description: Responsible for performing routine specimen collection, laboratory testing, and quality assurance in accordance with established laboratory guidelines. This role ensures accuracy and reliability by monitoring quality control, analyzing test results, and examining specimens to maintain high standards of performance. Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification is required. 1. Specimen PreparationVerify patient identity and follow established protocolsPrepare specimens according to ordered testsRotate weekly with other technicians across clinical departmentsPerform phlebotomy as needed2. TestingSelect appropriate tests based on ordersConduct equipment-based or manual laboratory testing per proceduresAccurately report results in the Laboratory Information System3. Quality AssurancePerform daily quality control checksAdhere to quality control policies when test systems fall outside acceptable limitsCalibrate instruments and perform preventive maintenanceTroubleshoot analyzers and retain records per CLIA standards4. Safety & Infection ControlDisinfect equipment and clean work areasDispose of biohazardous waste and sharps properlyMaintain a safe environment free from physical, chemical, and biological hazardsPerform routine maintenance as required5. Administrative DutiesDocument patient communications accuratelyAnswer phones and assist with inquiriesOrder and maintain inventory of supplies and equipmentPerform other duties as assigned Requirements: PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GEDFormal training with a BA or AAS in a related fieldASCP certification or eligibility as a new graduateAbility to follow specimen handling, processing, and testing proceduresFamiliarity with medical terminologyBasic computer proficiencyPERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Maintains strict confidentialityService-oriented; actively seeks ways to assist othersStrong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasksComfortable with repetitive microscope useAble to sit or stand for extended periodsCapable of lifting & carrying up to 50 lbs PIca4fb9b3b61d-1962
