Overview

The City of North Kansas City is seeking a Laboratory Technician responsible for overseeing industrial and commercial waste disposal processes to ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards. Key duties include conducting inspections, testing waste samples, and maintaining monitoring equipment to prevent pollution of the municipal sewer system.

Key responsibilities

  • Inspect industrial and commercial operations for compliance with waste discharge ordinances
  • Evaluate the operation and maintenance of waste treatment equipment
  • Test for pollution and contamination in waste discharges
  • Operate and maintain water pollution control monitoring equipment
  • Prepare and submit reports on findings and activities
  • Cooperate with private industry during investigations

Required skills

  • Knowledge of waste sampling techniques and chemical testing
  • Ability to inspect drains and waste treatment facilities
  • Skills in operating grease removal and monitoring equipment
  • Ability to prepare detailed inspection reports
  • Must obtain a Class D Wastewater license within one year
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with coursework in basic sciences
