Job Description

Overview

The Laboratory Director at HCA Houston Healthcare West is responsible for directing operations and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while also driving innovation within the department. This role involves managing staffing, financial oversight, and developing departmental strategies to enhance service quality and patient satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

  • Directs laboratory operations to meet organizational and regulatory requirements
  • Ensures timely and consistent staff hiring, orientation, and training
  • Coaches and develops staff through regular feedback
  • Sets and executes departmental strategies for service, quality, and compliance
  • Monitors financial operations and resource utilization
  • Ensures compliance with standards set by accrediting agencies
  • Manages key vendor relationships and supply contracts
  • Implements a communication plan to keep department personnel informed
  • Delegates responsibilities and authority in accordance with regulatory guidelines

Required skills

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology or Chemistry
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • National Certification as a Medical Technologist
  • 3+ years of progressive laboratory management experience
  • Hospital clinical laboratory experience preferred
  • Proficiency in regulatory compliance and performance management
  • Financial oversight experience and coaching skills
