Job Description

Overview

The Laboratory Director at HCA Houston Healthcare West is responsible for overseeing the operations, programs, and activities of the laboratory to meet organizational and regulatory standards. The role includes managing staffing, financial operations, compliance with accrediting agencies, and fostering a culture of open communication and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Directs laboratory operations to meet regulatory requirements and drive innovation
  • Ensures adequate staffing through hiring, orientation, and performance management
  • Develops staff through coaching and regular feedback
  • Sets and executes strategies for service quality and personnel management
  • Oversees financial operations and prepares Monthly Operating Review reports
  • Assures compliance with standards set by accrediting agencies
  • Manages vendor relationships and supply contracts
  • Implements communication plans for educating department personnel
  • Monitors staff activities for operational efficiency and adherence to policies

Required skills

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology or Chemistry
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • National Certification as a Medical Technologist
  • 3+ years of progressive laboratory management experience
  • Hospital clinical laboratory experience preferred
  • Experience in financial management and operational efficiency
