Job Description

Overview

Join KEYS Academy as a Special Education Teacher, where you will lead a structured and supportive classroom environment for K-12 students with emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs. Guided by trauma-informed care principles, you will implement individualized instruction aligned with student IEP goals while fostering social-emotional development and academic success.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver lesson plans aligned to Virginia Standards of Learning and individual student IEP goals.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet varied academic, behavioral, communication, and sensory needs.
  • Implement evidence-based teaching strategies and positive behavioral supports.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, student-centered classroom environment.
  • Conduct formal and informal assessments to guide instructional decisions.
  • Serve as case manager for assigned students and collaborate with families and service providers.
  • Teach and reinforce the KEYS for a Big Life Curriculum and incorporate Social Thinking concepts.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Active Virginia teaching license in Special Education
  • Endorsement in Emotional Disabilities or related Special Education endorsement
  • Strong knowledge of Special Education law and IEP development
  • Ability to analyze student data and make instructional decisions
  • Proficiency with educational technology and online learning platforms
  • Strong classroom management and structured teaching skills
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
