Job Description

Overview

Johnson Controls is looking for a Journeyman HVAC Chiller Mechanic to join their Federal Systems team, specifically focusing on shipboard HVAC/R equipment for the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. The role involves supporting critical systems that ensure effective cooling in challenging conditions, backed by a talented field service team and OEM support.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and service of chilled water air conditioning plants and refrigeration systems for Navy and Coast Guard vessels.
  • Inspect, diagnose, service, and repair commercial and industrial HVAC equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve HVAC mechanical problems, including some electrical and control issues.
  • Respond to service and warranty calls.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, including belt adjustments, oiling, and cleaning of equipment.
  • Perform non-destructive tests and collect samples for analysis.

Required skills

  • 5+ years of commercial and industrial HVAC experience
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and service experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to obtain and maintain government clearances
  • Experience with Navy marine service equipment (preferred)
  • Chiller maintenance and service experience (preferred)
  • Appropriate licenses to work with refrigerants, boiler, and steam operational knowledge (preferred)
