Job Description

Overview

The State of Washington is seeking an Investigator 3 (Investigator 2 In-Training) for the Office of the Insurance Commissioner within the Legal Affairs Division. This role involves investigating complex allegations related to insurance entities in Washington State, ensuring compliance with insurance laws and protecting consumers. Candidates will have the opportunity to advance from a senior investigator role to an expert-level investigator, making a significant impact in public service.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct complex regulatory investigations involving potential violations of Washington insurance laws
  • Review complaints and allegations, and develop investigative strategies
  • Gather, analyze, and evaluate evidence through interviews and document reviews
  • Draft investigative correspondence, notices of investigation, and subpoenas
  • Prepare comprehensive investigative reports and findings
  • Maintain accurate case files and documentation
  • Collaborate with attorneys and regulatory staff throughout investigations
  • Present findings and provide testimony during administrative proceedings

Required skills

  • Three years of experience conducting financial examinations or investigations of statutory violations
  • Experience in gathering and analyzing technical data and preparing detailed reports
  • Basic Microsoft Word and Outlook skills
  • Degree in criminal justice, paralegal studies, law or related field (relevant experience may substitute)
  • Familiarity with Title 48 RCW and Title 284 WAC (preferred)
  • Investigative experience in the insurance industry (preferred)
  • Fluent verbal communication skills in multiple languages (preferred)
