Job Description

Overview

In this role as the Inventory & Materials Management Lead at Avantor, you will be responsible for coordinating inventory activities and ensuring operational excellence within the Advanced Laboratory Services team. Collaborating closely with the Territory Area Manager and supporting customer needs, you will manage resources and monitor performance in a regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily inventory activities, including receiving, storage, distribution, and cycle counting
  • Develop and manage schedules to align resources with customer demand
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer escalations and operational issues
  • Act as site lead in the absence of the Supervisor, making real-time operational decisions
  • Translate customer needs into actionable plans and proactively mitigate risks
  • Monitor performance metrics, analyze KPIs, and support business reviews
  • Ensure inventory accuracy through oversight of cycle counts and lot tracking
  • Coordinate sourcing activities and support supplier performance
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and quality
  • Support team success through task coordination, training, and ongoing feedback

Required skills

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Chemistry, or a related field preferred
  • 5-6 years in inventory management, warehouse operations, or supply chain within a regulated environment
  • Strong experience with ERP systems (SAP MM, Oracle, or equivalent)
  • Hands-on experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) and barcode scanning
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, dashboards)
  • Solid knowledge of inventory control practices (FIFO/FEFO, lot tracking)
  • Understanding of chemical handling and compliance requirements
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher) preferred
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
