Overview

Spectrum Center Schools and Programs is seeking an Instructional Aide to join its award-winning Special Education team in Oakland, California. This role involves providing personalized support to students in Grades K-12, collaborating closely with educators to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and fostering a supportive learning environment. The position emphasizes the importance of patience, empathy, and a positive attitude in helping students achieve their full potential.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to create a supportive learning environment.
  • Implement individualized instruction and behavioral interventions.
  • Monitor students during lessons to ensure comprehension and progress.
  • Track student growth and communicate with teachers about interventions.
  • Manage student behavior while adhering to school policies.
  • Support students facing academic challenges and encourage personal growth.
  • Document student behaviors and performance accurately and timely.
  • Assist in preparing behavioral reports and activity logs.
  • Maintain communication with students, families, and staff regarding student needs.
  • Participate in assurance and accreditation activities.
  • Engage in school-wide meetings to support educational outcomes.

Required skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a CA state driver's license.
  • Crisis management training certification.
  • Experience working with children in special education or behavioral health settings.
  • Skills in working with learning disabilities, autism, and emotional disorders.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of instructional technology and basic office software.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
