Overview

ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education is seeking an Instructional Aide to join their Special Education team in Birmingham, Alabama. This role involves providing personalized support and guidance to K-12 students, collaborating closely with educators to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and fostering a safe and encouraging learning environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to create a welcoming learning environment.
  • Implement individualized instruction and behavioral interventions.
  • Instruct and monitor students during lessons to enhance comprehension.
  • Track student progress and communicate successes and needs with teachers.
  • Manage student behavior and enforce school policies.
  • Support and mentor students facing academic challenges.
  • Document student behaviors and performance accurately.
  • Participate in assurance and accreditation activities.
  • Communicate proactively with students, colleagues, and families.

Required skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate degree or higher in a related field or 48+ semester hours completed
  • Prior experience in special education or behavioral health settings
  • Strong skills in classroom management and individualized instruction
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with instructional technology and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to handle emergencies calmly and make independent decisions
  • Knowledge of behavioral interventions and student supervision
