Overview

The Infant/Toddler CDA Specialist at the Connecticut Institute for Communities, Inc. assists classrooms in planning and implementing routines, curriculum, and activities for children aged 6 months to 5 years. Working under the direction of a Lead Teacher, this position is crucial for supporting the Head Start program and ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and implementing classroom routines and curriculum
  • Support teachers with assessment administration and record keeping
  • Help manage classroom activities during emergency drills and play periods
  • Reinforce learning material and strategies for individual students
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical behavior regarding student information
  • Participate in professional development training programs
  • Assist with clerical duties as assigned by the teacher or assistant
  • Provide support during non-instructional duties including meal routines

Required skills

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate or commitment to obtain one
  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Basic computer experience (email, word processing, internet navigation)
  • Knowledge of early childhood principles and practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, bilingual skills are a plus (Spanish/Portuguese preferred)
  • Understanding of child development and learning styles
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with staff, parents, and public
  • Valid Driver's license and reliable transportation preferred
