Job Description

Overview

The Infant/Toddler CDA Specialist at the Connecticut Institute for Communities is responsible for supporting classroom routines and curriculum for children aged 6 months to 5 years. Working under the direction of a Lead Teacher, this role involves assisting in the development of educational activities, managing classroom environments, and catering to the needs of the children in Head Start and preschool settings.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and implementing classroom routines and curriculum
  • Support the teacher in managing classroom activities and behavior
  • Administer and record assessments for individual students
  • Help with non-instructional duties such as snack and lunch routines
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Participate in professional development training programs
  • Provide information and support to substitute teachers when needed

Required skills

  • Knowledge of early childhood principles and practices
  • Understanding of child development and learning styles
  • Communication skills in English; bilingual skills in English/Spanish or English/Portuguese preferred
  • Basic computer skills including email and word processing
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships
  • Ability to meet Head Start Performance Standards
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate or commitment to obtain within one year
