Job Description

Overview

The Infant/Toddler CDA Specialist at the Connecticut Institute for Communities works under the guidance of a Lead Teacher to support classroom routines, curriculum, and activities for preschool and infant/toddler children. This role requires assisting in various tasks related to child development and supporting educational needs for children aged 6 months to 5 years.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and implementing classroom routines and curriculum
  • Support teachers in assessing and recording student progress
  • Help develop strategies to reinforce learning for individual students
  • Supervise children during emergency drills and non-classroom activities
  • Assist with non-instructional duties such as meal and toilet routines
  • Provide support to substitute teachers as needed
  • Perform clerical tasks as requested by the teacher or assistant teacher
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards regarding student information
  • Participate in professional development training

Required skills

  • Knowledge of early childhood principles and practices
  • Understanding of child development and learning styles
  • Ability to use computer for data entry and related tasks
  • Effective communication skills in English; bilingual skills in Spanish or Portuguese preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a team environment
  • Basic math skills for counting children and understanding ratios
  • High School Diploma or GED; CDA certificate or commitment to obtain one within a year
