Job Description

Overview

The Industrial Millwright at West Fraser will be responsible for maintaining and operating the planer machine, ensuring proper setup, performance, and quality finish of lumber products. This role involves performing preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and assisting with major repairs, while adhering to safety protocols and utilizing hand tools.

Key responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proper use of personal protective equipment and safety procedures
  • Set, monitor, and maintain the planer machine
  • Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance
  • Assist maintenance with major repairs of machines
  • Feed the planer and ensure a constant lumber flow
  • Maintain machine setup and tolerances
  • Change knives and perform routine maintenance and lubrication
  • Conduct housekeeping as assigned by supervisor
  • Complete West Fraser Qualified Millwright training and competency checklist

Required skills

  • Knowledge of safety rules and lockout procedures
  • Ability to perform critical measurements using a caliper
  • Experience with hand tools
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance procedures and machine controls
  • Capacity to work in outside conditions
