Overview

SUMMARY Mortenson is currently seeking an Indirect Tax Team Lead responsible for overseeing indirect tax compliance, systems, and governance processes for Mortenson and its entities. The position partners closely with Finance Operations, Legal, ITS, and external advisors to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant indirect tax outcomes while supporting scalable business growth. RESPONSIBILITIESOversee preparation and filing of indirect tax returns monthlyResearch indirect tax requirements for new activities and entitiesDetermine personal property tax requirements and review renditions in various tax jurisdictionsReview tax inquiries and lead exemption certificate managementManage tax calendar, matrices, tax rates, and general ledger account reconciliationsReview of Vertex calculations, optimize configuration of system with technology partnersDevelop and improve indirect tax ,proceduresManage sales, use, excise, and property tax audits Manage resolution of sales, use, excise, and property tax notices from state and local tax authorities QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in Accounting is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience Minimum seven years related experience in business tax compliance Previous experience in multi-state tax compliance Previous experience in construction and real estate industries preferredPrevious experience with Vertex O Series and Oracle preferredSuperior organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detailAbility to perform in a fast paced, changing environmentStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently with minimum supervisionPositive, professional attitude and excellent customer service skillsAbility to maintain confidentiality of sensitive informationAbility to collaborate effectively and build successful business relationships across the companyKnowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity, inclusive behaviors, and Affirmative Action plans and their intended use A few benefits offered include: (for Non-Craft & Non-Union Craft working 25+ hours / week)Medical and prescription drug plans that includes no additional cost vision coverage Dental plan 401k retirement plan with a generous Mortenson matchPaid time off, holidays, and other paid leaves Employer paid Life, AD&D, and disability insurance No-Cost mental health tool and concierge with extensive work-life resourcesTuition reimbursement Adoption Assistance Gym Membership Discount Program The base pay range for this role is $94,200 - $141,300. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
