Overview

Prairie Band, LLC is looking for an In-House Attorney to provide legal advisory services to the Board of Directors and executive employees. The role involves ensuring legal compliance to support Tribal sovereignty, advising on federal contracting, and assisting with a variety of legal documents and disputes.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as in-house legal advisor for the LLC Board of Directors and executives
  • Ensure compliance with laws to protect Tribal sovereignty
  • Review and interpret contracts, grants, leases, and legal documents
  • Advise on federal contracting matters and represent the LLC in related disputes
  • Attend Tribal Council and other meetings to provide legal advice and perspectives
  • Conduct legal research and draft legal documents including contracts and policies
  • Maintain communication with the Board of Directors and project managers
  • Provide training on PBPN law and order code to staff
  • Monitor legislation that may affect the Tribe and its entities

Required skills

  • JD from an ABA accredited law school
  • Five years of experience in Federal Indian law and federal contracting
  • Five years of litigation experience
  • Member in good standing of their State Bar
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and oral communication skills
  • Experience in cross-cultural working environments with Federally recognized Indian tribes
  • Ability to organize and maintain clear and accurate records
  • Strong relationship-building skills with partner agencies
  • Effective project management and prioritization skills
