Overview

Join Bellingham Technical College and help students build the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the HVAC-R field! As an I-BEST Transitional Studies faculty member, you'll team teach alongside professional-technical faculty while providing hands-on academic support, mentorship, and connections to resources that help students overcome barriers and achieve their goals. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate across programs and make a meaningful impact on student success, retention, and career readiness. Salary: For fall quarter (September 22-December 11) this assignment provides a 121-hour contract at a $72.89 hourly rate. This position is grant-funded and has the possibility of continuing through the academic year. HVAC-R classes are scheduled Monday-Thursday. While I-BEST assignments are flexible, work hours will generally occur during these days and around morning class hours, with some afternoons being needed. Team teach HVAC-R courses as Transitional Studies faculty with a focus on literacy, basic math, and study skills alongside subject-matter professional-technical expert and program leadServe as point of contact for I-BEST program students when they need referrals to resources or encounter barriersAssist I-BEST students with elements of college preparedness, including study skills, technology skills, time management, academic tutoring, barrier identification and problem solvingAssist the HVAC-R program with implementing and coordinating coursework and student supportCollaborate with instructors in HVAC-R and Transitional Studies to develop integrative lessons and assignments; Consult with other college faculty and staff on issues relevant to student success and retentionWork with Transitional Studies Dean and program staff to ensure required data collection and complianceWork with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and experiencesParticipate in departmental meetings and activities Contribute to college-wide goals and activitiesDemonstrate a strong commitment to Bellingham Technical College's MissionOther related duties as assigned and requiredThis position requires the ability to:Work effectively with diverse students, colleagues, staff and a community who represent a broad spectrum of ages, abilities, ethnicities, and educational, economic, and cultural backgroundsCommunicate clearly (verbal and written)Work independently and as a member of a team Analyze and solve problems independently and collaboratively Commitment to interdisciplinary learningHigh level of energy, creativity, and motivation to design and implement effective teaching and learning practicesTolerance for ambiguity and changeExperience in facilitating the success of individuals representing a broad range of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and ability backgroundsExperience with non-traditional teaching methodsWork closely with Accessibility Resources for students with accommodation needs Maintain confidentiality of student recordsWork independently and on a flexible scheduleDemonstrate a strong commitment to Bellingham Technical College's Mission and contribute to college-wide goals and activitiesWork independently and on a variable schedule that may include eveningsMinimum Qualifications: Completed a bachelor's degree from an accredited institutionExperience working with adult learners in a developmental context Prior to final hire, a pre-employment background, including criminal history and signed declaration statement as it pertains to sexual misconduct per Washington State Law (RCW 28B.112.080) will be conducted.
