Job Description

Overview

The HVAC Technician at The GEO Group is responsible for maintaining and servicing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, as well as related security and sensor equipment. The role involves installation of new units and parts, performance of repairs, and overseeing work performed by inmate maintenance staff under moderate supervision.

Key responsibilities

  • Overhauls and services air conditioning, heating, and ventilating equipment
  • Removes and installs motors, thermostats, and humidistats
  • Repairs and replaces worn and broken parts on condensers, compressors, and water and vacuum pumps
  • Adjusts electrical parts and equipment; modifies valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings
  • Tests refrigeration equipment for leaks and adds gas as needed
  • Maintains records and prepares reports on repairs and service
  • Directs work and provides technical assistance to inmate maintenance staff
  • Assists in maintaining the security of assigned inmates
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five years of experience in HVAC or refrigeration systems operation and maintenance
  • EPA approved Type I and Type II Refrigerant Recovery Certification preferred
  • Ability to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely
