Overview

The HVAC Mechanic I position at Loyola University Maryland involves performing entry-level duties related to the installation, servicing, and repair of various heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC) systems. The role requires physical capability and knowledge of HVAC principles, along with the ability to work in diverse environmental conditions.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in installation, operation, service, and repair of light commercial HVAC systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks on HVAC equipment
  • Regulate and monitor air handling equipment and associated systems
  • Service and repair piping, control valves, condensate pumps, and steam systems
  • Insulate piping and mechanical equipment
  • Maintain tools and equipment of the trade
  • Ensure work area is cleaned after completion of assignments
  • Assist with snow and ice removal as directed

Required skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC principles and refrigeration
  • Experience in installing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and National Electric Code
  • Skill in welding, brazing, and soldering
  • Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Valid driver's clearance
