Job Description

Overview

CFS is seeking an HR Manager to join their rapidly growing waste management and recycling organization in Oak Park, Illinois. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HR within the transportation sector and will report directly to the CFO, playing a crucial role in the company's ongoing expansion.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and maintain employee relations by establishing trust and providing recommendations to management.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal laws by maintaining HR records.
  • Manage unemployment claims and represent the company during hearings.
  • Communicate employment-related policies to managers and employees.
  • Lead recruitment efforts including job descriptions, sourcing, interviewing, and placement.
  • Plan and conduct new employee orientations with a structured onboarding process.
  • Support management in performance management and employee reviews.
  • Guide management during disciplinary actions and termination processes.
  • Conduct training and serve as the primary contact for employee benefits questions.
  • Participate in annual health insurance renewal processes.
  • Manage Driver qualification files according to Department of Transportation requirements.
  • Oversee weekly payroll processing and maintain Paylocity payroll implementation.
  • Provide weekly HR reporting to the management team.

Required skills

  • Minimum three years in an HR generalist position.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Familiarity with employment laws and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Discretion and ethical judgment in applying company policies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems.
  • Familiarity with payroll and timekeeping systems (Paylocity).
  • Previous DOT experience is a plus.
  • Certification as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP is preferred.
