Overview

The Hospital Laboratory Director at Memorial Health University Medical Center is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and driving innovation in healthcare. The role involves managing staff, monitoring financial operations, and fostering communication within the department to enhance patient care.

Key responsibilities

  • Direct operations, programs, and activities to meet organizational and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure adequate staffing through hiring, training, and performance management
  • Evaluate and incorporate feedback into department improvement processes
  • Oversee financial operations of the laboratory, identifying variances and adjusting as needed
  • Assure compliance with standards set by accrediting agencies
  • Manage vendor relationships and supply contracts
  • Develop and implement communication plans for department personnel
  • Monitor and evaluate staff activities and provide necessary coaching and training

Required skills

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • National Certification as a Medical Technologist required
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive laboratory management experience
  • Experience in hospital clinical laboratory preferred
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines and compliance requirements
