Overview

The Hospice/Palliative Medicine Physician at VITAS Healthcare is responsible for the medical direction and oversight of patient care in the hospice program. This role involves collaborating with the care team and community physicians to ensure quality standards and effective symptom management for patients and families.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide medical direction for the hospice care team and consult with attending physicians
  • Assure quality of clinical care and documentation for terminal patients
  • Supervise team physicians and participate in their hiring and evaluation
  • Actively participate in quality improvement functions and interdisciplinary groups
  • Educate community physicians on palliative care principles and hospice services
  • Participate in local management team activities like budgeting and strategic planning
