Job Description

Overview

TDS Telecom is seeking a Horizontal Directional Driller to join their Fiber Construction Team in Madison, Wisconsin. This full-time position involves constructing and maintaining a state-of-the-art PON/fiber network, requiring a hands-on approach to work outdoors while adhering to safety protocols. Candidates will use various construction equipment and participate in training for skills necessary to excel in the role.

Key responsibilities

  • Operate horizontal directional drill or locate for the drill
  • Restore job sites and maintain accurate project labels and markings
  • Support fiber splicing and repair activities
  • Install, maintain, test, and repair buried and aerial fiber lines
  • Operate construction equipment such as trenchers, plows, excavators, and locators
  • Set pedestals, vaults, handholes, and other outside plant infrastructure
  • Climb poles, ladders, and structures; operate bucket trucks as needed
  • Conduct general construction tasks in various weather conditions while adhering to safety standards

Required skills

  • 6+ months of experience in customer service or electrical/utility construction
  • Ability to obtain Class A CDL
  • Experience with horizontal directional drilling preferred
  • Basic understanding of telecommunication products and services
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Proficiency in operating hand tools, cable locators, and testing equipment
