Job Description Job Description Fabricator Job DescriptionHollow Metal Doors & FramesDepartment: Manufacturing / ProductionReports To: Production SupervisorEmployment Type: Full-TimePosition SummaryThe Fabricator/Welder is responsible for fabricating, welding, modifying, and assembling commercial hollow metal doors and frames according to shop drawings, work orders, and industry standards. This position requires precision welding, metal fabrication skills, and attention to detail to ensure products meet company quality standards and customer specifications.The ideal candidate has experience with MIG welding, steel fabrication, and commercial door and frame manufacturing while maintaining a strong commitment to workplace safety and productivity.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesFabricate commercial hollow metal doors and frames from work orders and shop drawings.Perform MIG welding on 16- to 14-gauge steel components.Fabricate and weld:Single door framesDouble door framesSidelight framesBorrowed lite framesTransom framesCustom frame assembliesInstall hardware reinforcements for hinges, locks, closers, strikes, and specialty hardware.Cut, fit, and assemble steel components using fabrication equipment.Operate grinders, saws, punches, drill presses, presses, and other fabrication machinery safely.Grind and finish welds to company quality standards.Read and interpret architectural drawings, and fabrication schedules.Verify measurements, squareness, and tolerances using measuring tools.Inspect completed work for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.Prepare finished products for painting, staging, or shipment.Maintain equipment and keep work areas clean and organized.Follow all OSHA safety regulations and company safety procedures.Assist other departments as production demands require.Perform additional duties as assigned by supervision.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED preferred.Ability to read and interpret work orders and shop drawings.Experience using fabrication equipment and hand tools.Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.Ability to work independently and within a team environment.Basic math and measuring skills.Preferred QualificationsExperience manufacturing commercial hollow metal doors and frames.Knowledge of commercial door hardware preparations.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesMIG weldingSteel fabricationMechanical aptitudePrecision measuringQuality inspectionProblem-solvingTime managementOrganizational skillsEffective communicationSafe operation of fabrication equipmentPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand for extended periods.Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 pounds.Ability to bend, kneel, squat, reach, and climb as necessary.Manual dexterity to safely operate welding and fabrication equipment.Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including:Welding helmetSafety glassesGlovesHearing protectionWorking ConditionsManufacturing environment with exposure to:Welding fumesSparksNoiseDustMoving machineryIndoor production facility.Overtime and weekend work may be required to meet production schedules.Performance ExpectationsEmployees in this position are expected to:Produce high-quality welds requiring minimal rework.Meet daily and weekly production goals.Maintain excellent attendance and reliability.Follow all safety procedures.Produce accurate work while minimizing waste.Demonstrate teamwork and professionalism.Contribute to continuous improvement efforts throughout the manufacturing process.
