Overview

Description :Histology Technologist is responsible for assisting with processes and preparation of histologic slides for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists. Responsible for specialized staining and processing as requested by pathologist. Ability to troubleshoot instrument or equipment malfunctions and ensure specimen integrity. Responsible to use critical thinking to assess questionable processes or results and correct or present to supervisor/pathologist for resolution.Histology Technician is responsible for assisting with processes and preparation of histologic slides for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists. Responsible for specialized staining and processing as requested by pathologist. Ability to troubleshoot instrument or equipment malfunctions and ensure specimen integrity.Histology TechnologistEducation:Required: Bachelor's Degree must be obtained within 90 days AND completion of NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program OR one year of full-time acceptable experience in a histopathologyExperience:Preferred: Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician Program or 2 years on the job trainingSkills:Excellent organizational, customer relations, planning and analytical skills.Strong mental and visual concentration.Ability to work independently with sufficient knowledge of all aspects of the Cytology department.Good hand/eye coordination.Strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on communication.Licensure/Certification/Registration:Required: Certification as a Histotechnologist from a nationally accredited certifying agency within 90 days of hireHistology TechnicianEducation:Required: Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the past five years OR 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both) AND 1 full year of histopathology experience within the past five years (must have experience in fixation, embedding/microtomy, processing, staining, and laboratory operations) OR If licensed as a Histotechnician prior to 1/1/2005, High School Diploma or Equivalent AND two years' histopathology experience. Experience:Preferred: 2 years' experience in histologySkills:Excellent organizational, customer relations, planning and analytical skills.Strong mental and visual concentration.Ability to work independently with sufficient knowledge of all aspects of the Cytology department.Good hand/eye coordination.Strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on communication.Licensure/Certification/Registration:Required: Certification as a Histotechnician from a nationally accredited certifying agency within 90 days of hire
